Cleaning Embroidered Pillows

It is important to take caution when making any attempt to clean embroidered pillows as the artwork that is on the pillows might be damaged in the process. There are several steps that you should follow when cleaning an embroidered pillow. These steps are:

Vacuuming

Before anything is done to the embroidered piece, it should be first vacuumed. When vacuuming, the tip of a vacuum hose should be covered with a nylon stocking or a material that is made of light mesh. When you start the vacuuming, do not let the vacuum to touch the embroidered pillows.
The nozzle should be kept to a reasonable distance from the pillow. The safe distance should be at least half an inch on top of embroidered throw pillows. Turn the cover of embroidery inside out if the pieces have inserts, and then repeat the vacuuming process. If it happens that the embroidery pillows are not very dirty, you can stop the cleaning process at this point.

Colorfastness Testing

You should check fibers of material for any colorfastness so as to prevent dyes that have been used on the embroidered pillows from running. If the piece that you are cleaning has large color blocks, you should put cold water on a white piece of cloth and then rub it over each color on the pillows. If the areas are covering just a small part, a cotton swab is enough. Even if you are cleaning custom embroidered pillows and you notice that there is color transfer to the cloth or cotton swab, you should not wash the pillows. If you wash them, they will discolor of fade just like latex pillows.

Hand Washing

This should be done only if the pillows have not transferred any color. If you are cleaning embroidered state pillows that are hard to clean, you can use a home dry DIY cleaning kit. The same thing should be done when washing baby embroidered pillows.
